The Poiana Brașov Ski Resort

The biggest ski area in Romania

Poiana Brașov is the most modern and well-known ski resort in Romania. The skiing area it encompasses, with more than 24 km of slopes for all levels, is the biggest in the country. Over the past 10 years, it has undergone massive development and is now proudly equipped with European-standard ski lifts. In total, Poiana Brașov has three cable cars, two chairlifts and two ski-lifts, with a total capacity of carrying 8,450 people per hour.

Ski slopes perfect for all levels and ages

Poiana Brașov is the ideal destination for learning to ski as prices for ski and snowboard lessons are at least two and a half times cheaper than Central and Western Europe and the ski passes prices cost 40% less. Poiana Brașov is the perfect choice regardless of your skiing abilities, as it offers the best conditions if you want to try skiing for the first time or develop your previously acquired skills as it offers ski slopes for all ages and levels. For beginners, it offers a baby slope (Stadion) which is especially designed for teaching children who have never been on skis before. Bradul Slope is where adults can try their skis on for the first time - this is a much wider and better fitted piste for adults. Keeping children and adults separate when learning to ski is a great advantage from a safety point of view which very few ski resorts offer.

The longest run in Romania (blue ski slope called Drumul Roșu) is in Poiana Brașov as well, it is over 5 km in length and snakes down from the top of the Postavarul Massiff to Poiana Brașov and it is ideal for progressing from the other two beginners’ slopes, once confidence and minimum technical abilities have been built up.

For intermediate skiers, there is a perfect red run called Sulinar Slope, with a length of 3 km while advanced skiers can test their limits and improve their style on black runs such as Lupului, Kanzel and Subteleferic, the last one offering unequalled views over Poiana Brașov from the heights of the mountains. This is the ideal ski resort for a family whose members have different ski levels but want to spend time together during their ski breaks. There is a beautiful wooden chalet on the mountain and also a good number of bars and modern restaurants in Poiana Brașov itself.

Excelent location and very easily accessible

Situated only 12 km away from the stunning medieval city of Brașov, a ski holiday in Poiana Brașov can offer much more than just skiing. Dracula’s Castle is only an hour away and Brașov itself offers a lot of après-ski activities from local cuisine and international restaurants located in centuries old buildings in the historic centre, to hidden away bars in medieval cellars and a romantic promenade under the Tâmpa Mountain, overlooking medieval roofs. The little ones can also try the olympic size skating ring and a wealth of SPAs are also available for those looking to relax after a day on the slopes.

Poiana Brașov is very easily accessible by car or by public transport. Bus no. 20 leaves Brașov (from Livada Poștei) to Poiana Brașov every 30 minutes and the trip takes approximately 20 minutes. A ticket costs only €1. If you are driving, you can park your car in the big public parking area at the entrance in Poiana Brașov or in the smaller one that is located in the centre of the resort. Prices are €2.4 for the whole day. Hotels and restaurants have private parking which are much more expensive (they start at €3 per hour). There is also a public multi-storey car park 2 km away from the ski resort (in Poiana Mică) which is ideal during the more crowded periods, weekends and school breaks. The price is still €2.4 for the whole day and there is a public mini bus that takes you from the parking to the bottom of the cable car for free.

Poiana Brașov is value for money

Prices for ski passes are in line with other ski resorts in Romania (although here you can access 3 times more slopes than in any other Romanian resort) and are considerably cheaper than Central and Western Europe. A ski-pass for a whole day is only €32, for 20 hours of skiing over any number of days the price is €110 and for 10 full days of skiing you pay only €220. Children of course enjoy special prices which are based around 30% less than the standard adult fees.
